The Mercedes-Benz GLA Continues to Impress
The Mercedes-Benz GLA has been out for quite a while now, and Grandville-area customer residents have shown their appreciation for its athletic feel, responsive maneuverability, and abundant premium features. The GLA is back in Grand Rapids for a second production cycle, as Mercedes-Benz took note of the subcompact luxury crossover SUV's attributes and improved on them. The second-gen GLA is available in two trim levels: the GLA 250 and the GLA 250 4MATIC, the latter which is named for the automaker's all-wheel-drive system.
Performance
The 221-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo inline four-cylinder engine which comes with auto start-stop technology to eliminate idling and comes paired to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is designed to be fuel-efficient without sacrificing acceleration ability. With the front-wheel-drive GLA 250, the crossover can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds; the 4MATIC model shaves off 0.2 seconds off that time. Fuel efficiency on both models is rated at 25/34 mpg and 24/33 mpg, respectively: good numbers for a subcompact vehicle.
Comfort and Convenience
The digital cockpit of the first-gen model is back with a refreshed look. Called the Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX, the cockpit incorporates digital in-dash 7-inch displays consisting of an instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen, with a touchpad controller nearby for physical inputs. MBUX includes a voice assistant complete with "Hey Mercedes" keyword activation responding to your commands, and you can set up multiple user profiles and save groups of settings as themes or moods.
Also included are Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to mirror your smartphone features onto the touchscreen, and an HD Radio receiver for digital tuning.
Many Holland drivers also like having a dual-zone automatic climate system for separate controls on the driver and front passenger side, proximity keyless entry with push-button engine start. Not only that, but you'll also receive three years of Mercedes connect services that include remote start, vehicle monitoring, stolen vehicle tracking, and door locking and unlock.

Interior
The redesign of the Mercedes-Benz GLA includes an extension of the wheelbase. The extension helps with providing more headroom, elbow room, and rear shoulder room. In addition, the rear seats can be folded down to maximize cargo room at 50.5 cubic feet.
Safety
Included with the Mercedes-Benz GLA are several driver-assistance features. Active brake assist gives you extra stopping power when needed around Wyoming, MI. The ATTENTION ASSIST is a driver-drowsiness detector, a rearview camera to look out for anything behind you when reversing. And, if that's not enough, blind-spot assist and exit warning assist systems help protect you against side collisions.
Ten-way occupant protection is provided by a driver's knee airbag, two frontal impact airbags, two side impact airbags, and two side curtain airbags. In the aftermath of a crash with an airbag is deployed, you can automatically initiate a call the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Services to notify trained experts on call 24/7, or you can press the SOS button in the vehicle for emergency assistance.
Bright white LED daytime running lamps help get your vehicle noticed on the road. With the help of the electronic stability control and traction control systems, you'll keep you planted on your intended path of travel, and keyless entry and a panic alarm combine to form the vehicle's theft-deterrent system.
